Art

This hands-on class is designed for the sophisticated art student who is seriously interested in the practical experience of studio art. The student must be motivated to learn and perform at the college level. The student will be expected to develop a two dimensional portfolio consisting of roughly 18-29 complete, original art works. Throughout the process of portfolio development, the student must concentrate on a theme or specific area of personal interest. He/she must also demonstrate strong technical skills by creating quality artwork, while experiencing success with a broad variety of 2D techniques. The student will also be guided to investigate formal and conceptual issues in art history and in art theory, and explore the functions of visual elements. Not only does the completed portfolio serve as the Advanced Placement Test, but it can serve, in part, as a college entrance requirement. Works from the portfolio can also be used in job interviews, and/or to earn merit-based scholarships and entry into professional juried art exhibits.
